Abstract

As the world continues to grapple with racial injustice and widespread unrest—marked by protests from people of all ethnic backgrounds—this article examines the subliminal influence of historical racial symbols and practices. It focuses on statues and monuments, slave plantation sites and tours, market houses where enslaved people were sold, and street names bearing the scars of slavery. These enduring symbols and practices shape public perception and contribute to systemic discriminatory practices and policies. The article encourages readers to critically reflect on how such practices may reinforce inequality and obstruct efforts toward effective racial justice conflict management.
