Description

Poster presented at the HBCU Aging Conference

This poster explores factors that influence physical activity (PA) participation in older adults aged 70 and above, addressing the well-documented benefits of PA and the barriers that prevent sufficient engagement. Using the COM-B model, the review examines the capability, opportunity, and motivation factors affecting PA in community-dwelling older adults (n=4,978, mean age 79). By analyzing 25 qualitative studies, the research identifies both motivators and obstacles to PA, offering insights into effective intervention strategies. The poster emphasizes the importance of addressing all three COM-B factors in PA interventions and highlights key limitations, such as the lack of diversity in the sample. Future research directions focus on understanding PA influences in diverse and underserved populations.
