Abstract
As part of F.D. Bluford Library’s Open Access Week 2024 celebration, themed Community Over Commercialization, this session, presented by the university archivist, explores the vital role of open access and archives in genealogy and community legacy building. Titled "Finding That Needle in a Haystack: Building Community Legacies Through Genealogy, Archives, and Open Sources," the presentation provides attendees with research strategies for using archival collections and open-source platforms to uncover and preserve family and community histories. The collection accompanying this event includes a video recording of the presentation, the presenter’s slides, and links to the resources highlighted during the session. By emphasizing the importance of free and equitable access to historical resources, this session inspires individuals to contribute to and sustain community-driven legacies.
