On February 1st, 1960 in Greensboro, North Carolina, four A&T freshmen students, Ezell Blair, Jr. (Jibreel Khazan), Franklin McCain, Joseph McNeil & David Richmond walked downtown and “sat - in” at the whites-only lunch counter at F.W. Woolworth’s store. They refused to leave when denied service and stayed until the store closed. Their brave actions led to the desegregation of the Woolworth's lunch counter in July 1960 and made a significant impact on other events in civil rights history. Each year, on February 1, North Carolina A&T State University hosts an annual breakfast commemorating the brave actions of the A&T Four. During the breakfast, the University often recognizes individuals who continue to strive to correct social injustices with the Human Rights Medal Award. This collection of digitized Sit-In Movement Anniversary Celebration programs offers a look at how the University and Greensboro community, throughout the years, have observed an event that changed the course of America.
