Abstract
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have a history of providing a welcoming space for veterans and is important for HBCUs to continue fostering an affirming educational space for this special student population. This article focuses on current veteran-friendly practices within HBCUs. Specifically, we provide an overview of the historical footprint of HBCUs and military education. In addition, we illuminate six HBCUs that are distinguished within the 2020–2021 Military Friendly® listing. We conclude this article with future considerations for HBCUs as they continue to enrich their campuses to affirm veterans, servicemembers, and their families.
