JCI Ethics

The Journal of Creative Inquiry: Black Women Theories & Practice, is committed to upholding the highest standards of ethics in research and publication. Our journal is dedicated to fostering a culture of integrity and transparency in scholarly publishing. This ethics statement outlines our policies and expectations regarding research ethics, publication ethics, and the handling of misconduct.

Research Ethics

Authors submitting to the Journal of Creative Inquiry: Black Women Theories & Practice must ensure that their research complies with ethical standards and guidelines relevant to their field. This includes obtaining necessary approvals from institutional review boards or ethics committees, securing informed consent from participants, and ensuring the humane treatment of animals in research. Authors must also adhere to principles of honesty, transparency, and respect for all research subjects.

Publication Ethics

Originality: Authors are expected to submit original work that has not been published elsewhere. Plagiarism in any form, including the use of others' work without proper citation, is unacceptable. Authors must ensure that their manuscripts are free from any form of plagiarism and provide appropriate credit to the work of others.

Redundant Publication: Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently or publishing multiple papers based on the same research without proper justification and cross-referencing is considered unethical. Authors must disclose any prior dissemination of the content and ensure that their submissions are unique to the Journal of Creative Inquiry: Black Women Theories & Practice.

Conflict of Interest Statement: Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest that could influence the research or publication process. This includes financial, personal, or professional relationships that could be perceived as affecting the objectivity of the work. Full transparency is required to maintain the integrity of the publication process.

Research and Publication Misconduct

Journal of Creative Inquiry: Black Women Theories & Practice takes allegations of research and publication misconduct seriously. Misconduct includes data fabrication, data falsification, plagiarism, authorship misrepresentation, unethical experimentation, and systematic manipulation of the publication process. When misconduct is suspected, the journal will conduct a thorough investigation by COPE guidelines1. If misconduct is confirmed, appropriate actions will be taken, which may include retraction of the published work, notification to relevant authorities, and banning the authors from future submissions.

We are committed to maintaining the trust of our readers, authors, and the broader academic community by ensuring that all published research meets the highest ethical standards. We encourage open dialogue and welcome feedback to continuously improve our ethical practices.
