Abstract
This book review examines Unearthing Promise and Potential: Our Nation’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (2010) by Marybeth Gasman (Author), Valerie Lundy-Wagner (Contributor), Tafaya Ransom (Contributor), and Nelson Bowman III (Contributor). The review highlights the historical origins, current challenges, and future potential of HBCUs in the American higher education landscape. The authors argue for the importance of recognizing the diverse characteristics and contributions of HBCUs toward educational equity and the retention of Black college students.
